Gantt Chart Project for Jira provides the following access points in Jira:

1. Setup the plugin

Before using the plugin, as Administrator, you need to carry out the following operations in order:

  • Activate the plugin
  • Request a license key
  • Install your license key
  • Complete the users list
  • Reconfigure and restart JIRA

1.1. Activate the plugin

After the installation, the first thing to do is to activate the plugin. The activation of the plugion consists of the acceptance of the EULA (End User Agreement License). Any access to the plugin will invoke a dialog for this purpose.

1.2. Request a license key

There are two possibilities to get into the license management administration page: 

  • Via Gantt Chart shortcut menu
  • Via Jira Administration Infrastructure

1.2.1. Via Gantt Chart shortcut menu

Just call the menu "License Management" entry under the main menu "Gantt Chart"

1.2.2. Via Jira Administration Infrastructure

The access is different in diferent versions of Jira .

1.2.2.1. In Jira < 4.4

Select the Administration menu of Jira, and then click on the "Time Planning" -> "License Management", you will get the following page:

1.2.2.2. In Jira >= 4.4 and 5.x

There are two possibilities to get into the administration pages: 

    • Select the "Administration" menu of Jira on top at right, 

    • And then click on the "Plugins" -> "License Management".

    • Or in the Administration page, select the expandable button "Plugins" under the "Projects", you can find "License Management" 

 

1.2.2.3. In Jira 6.x or +

Click on the menu "Add-on" under the Administration menu:

And then select the "License Management" tab:

1.2.3. Make the request

Click on the button "Free", "Try" or "Buy" to access our license request page for Free License, Evaluation License or Commercial License respectively::

 

Fill all information and click on the button "Apply" for Free, Open Source and Evaluation license, or "Send Request" for Enterprise license.

The "Open Source" entry is available If your Jira License is one of the following license: Community, Open Source or No Profil, It is free of charge. 

The "Starter" entry is available If your Jira License is the Starter license. 

 

It is possible that you cannot reach our license server if you are isolated from Internet. In this case, since the version 2.2.9, a URL is provided in the following Window when you click on the button "Try", "Buy", "Free" and "Renew":

You need to copy the URL with the data paramter and use it on any machine with Internet access to proceed the license request.

1.3. Install your license key

After applying the license, you'll receive the license key by email directly if the license type you requested is Free, Open Source and Evaluation license. The Starter and Enterprise licenses are managed by our sales team.

You need to copy and paste it in the text field of "License key" above and then select the button "Add" to install it.

1.4. Complete the user list

If you purchase a named license, it is important to complete the user list on the bottom of the same page to allow them use the all commercial features of this plugin.     

1.5. Reconfigure and restart Jira

Now, the plugin is ready to used. You need to restart Jira to make sure the plugin will work correctly. In the meantime, if your Jira has a default setting in term of resource memory, it'd better to extend the heap memory. Here is the documentation about this tropic:

2. Administration

Other administration tools are provided to configure the global behavior of this plugin. They are setup under the Administration section. You can find more detail information in Administrator's Guide

3. Time Planning

Those tools can be used by all users who have the Jira access for the task planning purpose. The Administrator and project lead have the write access of all issues. The developer group can access in read all issues, but can modify their assigned issues.  

3.1. Current Project

The main component of this plugin is the Gantt Chart diagram. It is installed under the Tab of the session "Projects".

The tool consist of three regions:

  • Tool Bar
  • Spreadsheet
  • Gantt Chart

Please reference User's Guide to get detail information about the usage of each gantt-chart.  

4. Resource Planning

This Gantt-chart is available since the current version 1.0.4. 

The Resource Planning focuses on the planning of one or more resources. It gives you another point of view of Project Management to check if each resource is well scheduled. To access this tool, click on the main menu "Gantt Chart", and then "Resource Planning" menu item:

 

In the Resource Planning, the root elements are resources. All issues assigned for each resource are displayed under their project.  

Project Portfolio

This Gantt-chart is available since the current version 1.0.4. 

Contrary to "Time Planning" that is mono project, "Project Portfolio" supports a set of projects you defined to describe methods for analyzing and collectively managing a group of current or proposed projects based on numerous key characteristics. To access this tool, click on the main menu "Gantt Chart", and then "Project Portfolio" menu item:

For the first time, the project list is empty. You need to select the projects to setup the content of portfolio. The portfolio will be saved in the default context of this component.
